Our Amazing Universe Part 2: ‘Amazing Facts, the Strange, the Odd, Facts that Defy Logic and Common Sense’: Tom Lugar, AELC Treasurer, will present the second of a three part series on Our Amazing Universe. Some of the concepts to be presented include: The Moon illusion; the size of our star, the Sun, compared to other visible stars in the night sky; meteorites residing in your home; the actual color of the Sun is not really yellow; the much stated explanation of zero gravity while in orbit is not true; contrary to what is stated by newscasters, the Leap Second added roughly every other year to our atomic clocks is not added to compensate for the slowing of the Earth’s rotation from tidal effects caused by the Moon; what would happen if the Sun could collapse into a black hole?; the Sun and Moon travel backwards in the sky in the southern hemisphere; water going down a drain or toilet does not rotate differently depending on whether it is in the northern or southern hemisphere; plus other concepts that defy common sense, are strange or odd in our amazing universe.
