Our guest speaker, Bob Naeye, will discuss the disconnect astronomers are facing between different methods used to measure the expansion rate of the universe, known as the Hubble constant. The two methods are giving slightly different rates. Either one or both methods are providing slightly inaccurate results, or there is some kind of unknown physics operating in the universe. The latter scenario is more interesting, and given the improving precision of measurement techniques, it’s becoming increasingly likely.
